Culinary Adventures - a Chinese hawker center

Right on our first day here, we decided to go to Chinatown to sample some local food and ended up at the People's Park Complex Hawker Center. A hawker center is a sort of courtyard where they gather a lot of street food-type stalls and you can pick whatever you want from each stall. Every stall is rated by the authorities according to the hygiene level, but I would recommend taking the whole thing with a grain of salt. The People's Park Complex is one of the most Chinese places we've ever been. It's chaotic and almost everything is in Chinese. Its hawker center is like that too. There were stalls after stalls and every vendor was shouting and trying to get us to have their food. Even though they had pictures of the dishes, we had no idea what those things were. Our first meal ended up being not so great, as the sauce was very greasy and the meat just ok. Though that might have been the exception, since Steve later tried some noodles and was very pleased with them. The best part? We paid S$3 to S$5 for each dish (that's two to three US dollars).
